Grandma’s Happy Chocolate Cake

Every child loves chocolate! They eat it or drink it almost daily. How often though do they think about where chocolate comes from or how it is made?

Fair Trade is a growing issue in society and fair trade products are more readily available in our market place. Awareness campaigns tend to be targeted towards adults and so we asked ourselves, who is explaining these realities to children – the next generation of adults?

This project is a children’s book for 5-8 year olds, in which young Casey learns about fair trade chocolate - or “happy chocolate” as her grandmother calls it.

Project objectives:
1.Write a good story that will inspire children and their parents to think about fair trade chocolate
2.Help grow the fair trade chocolate movement!

Project passions:
Get children thinking of the world as interconnected and inspire them to see their place in it, as conscious actors and not passive observers.

Where did the idea come from?
We can’t remember, but we are sure we were eating chocolate at the time :o)
